Abstrakt: The Border Guard is a formation established to protect the state's borders on land and at sea and to control border traffic, in accordance with the interests of national security. Protection of the state border is an important tool ensuring the cohesion and territorial, social and economic integrity of the state. Currently, there is a need to unify the system responsible for ensuring security in every sphere of the state's functioning. In this context, the protection of the state border is an integral element of the state security policy, which, depending on the type of challenges and threats, can be divided into military, economic, foreign, social and ecological policy. The result of these efforts is an attempt to unify the existing legal, organizational and institutional order. An attempt to classify border protection systems created by states into one of these varieties of security policy leads to the conclusion that they belong to military, economic and social policy.

Abstrakt: The issue of gray zone is an increasingly important issue in the current dynamic security environment, which characterizes the current security challenges. Actors exploit this space to pursue their interests through operations that are below the threshold of direct armed encounter. The concept of the gray zone was first characterised in an official document in the JP in 2010; in the European area, the issue began to be discussed after the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula. At present, the issue of the gray zone is not sufficiently characterised in the security strategies of the individual states of the European space, although the issue of ´hybrid war is mentioned in most of them.

Abstrakt: Ensuring the security of citizens is one of the fundamental tasks of any state. The state itself determines, through a security strategy, how it will proceed to ensure security. However, it is important to protect security by preventing disputes from arising and developing them into open conflicts. The aim of this article is to provide an excursion into the history of building the security of the newly established state, the Slovak Republic since 1993, by pointing out the most important milestones that influenced its security up to the current situation. Pointing out the purpose of building security and all that this process involves has never been more necessary than after the outbreak of armed conflict in Ukraine. Finally, possible predictions of the development of the security situation in the Slovak Republic and its surroundings are presented.

Abstrakt: The article aims to provide a broader overview on situation in the Middle East particularly in Iraq. Iraq represents the key factor to achieve security and stability in the Middle East, therefore international coalition and other global actors are focusing their actions to gain influence in Iraq. The impact of many disputes, wars, political fights, Saddam Hussein terroristic regime and the recent rise and fall of terroristic Islamic State left Iraq in ruins. Iraq is just standing at the beginning of its journey to become a prosperous state. In this article author is providing basic breakdown of threats, which are challenging the Iraqi government. Author divided them into two sections – internal and external, even though they are both connected and the overall success will depend on national and international solutions. In the last chapter the author is providing his opinion on the future development of Iraq in 2 years period. This article consist of facts from scientific publications and the author expertise based on his gained knowledge during his time period spent in Iraq.

Abstrakt: Motivation is the reason, incentive and force that compels people to act in a certain way and is currently one of the main approaches used by organisations to increase their effectiveness or attractiveness in the labour market. It is the attractiveness of the Armed Forces in the labour market and, in general, the problems of motivation in recruitment that currently represent one of the greatest challenges in building the professional armed forces of democratic states and, therefore, the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. The paper presents the importance of motivation in the military profession and in the process of recruitment to the Armed Forces in the context of changes brought by the new generation of youth - Generation Z. The aim of the paper is to point out the current state of motivation and interest of Generation Z for employment in the Slovak Armed Forces based on the results of research on youth in Slovakia, the results of which could provide an advantage to the recruitment to the Slovak Armed Forces in setting the recruitment strategy.
