Abstrakt: Since the launch of the first military and civilian operations and missions, conducted within the framework of its security and defence policy, the European Union has been trying to constantly improve its structures, mechanisms, and instruments to support stability and security in its neighbourhood and beyond, thus contributing to increasing security not only in the Union, but also in the world. The primary goal of operations and missions led by the Union is to help prevent the emergence of conflicts and crises, or if they have already arisen, to help solve them, increase the capacities of partners, and ultimately protect the Union and its citizens. Given the fact that what happens outside the borders of the Union has a direct impact on its security, the European Union today faces serious security challenges and threats. In order to protect and defend its citizens, it must deal with them and try to solve them using all available means and tools, including the military. That is also why, the authors – as part of their interdisciplinary scientific research – deal with the current challenges of the Union, primarily from the point of view of EU operations and missions conducted within the framework of the Common Security and Defence Policy.

Abstrakt: The article deals with the approach of strategic communication (formerly information intervention) of the United Nations (UN), focusing on the context of the use of media for these purposes. This text provides an evaluation of the communication and information strategy applied to the case study of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the peacekeeping mission MONUC/MONUSCO. The aim is to reflect the evolution of media use in missions and to provide an overview of the development of the UN strategic information concept. Strategic communication with all stakeholders (involving the media access) is essential to establish and maintain mission effectiveness.

Abstrakt: The article deals with the equivalent courses for achieving military rank in the Slovak army forces. The aim of the article is to introduce the participation of Slovak soldiers in The Battalion Commander Course. It refers to the positives and negatives of the course in Israel. The main part of this course deals with the developing leadership of the commanders, the goal is to train and educate the commanders, to set a personal example and to prepare the commanders for the deployment in a large scale of operations.

Abstrakt: The "principal–agent" problem refers to the conflict in interests and priorities that arises when one person or entity takes actions on behalf of another person or entity. The main goal of this article is to explain the essence of the “principalagent” problem, at the same time to compare how the “principal-agent” problem manifests itself in the private sector and in the public sector. The article also provides a presentation of the theoretical starting points for research into “an agency theory” in the military field.

Abstrakt: The psychological dimension of conflict is as important as the physical one. Conflict is a struggle of wills, which takes place in peoples’ minds as well as on the battlefield. Conflict is a struggle for power. The power may be political (ideological), military or economical (material). There is hardly a more merciless conflict than that based on ideology. The attitudes and behaviour of people (friend, foe and the undecided or uncommitted) may ultimately determine the outcome of conflict. Therefore it is necessary to understand the motivation of their leaders, forces and populations in order to shape their perceptions, affect their will to continue the conflict and to persuade them to accept the desired outcome. The employment of any element of power projection, particularly the military element, has always had a psychological dimension. This paper deals with the analysis of psychological operations in the conditions of NATO and the Slovak Armed Forces. The first part provides general information about psychological operations. The second chapter discusses basic NATO documents defining psychological operations, their goals, main tasks, organization and command and control. The third chapter contains basic documents dealing with psychological operations in the conditions of the Slovak Armed Forces.
