Abstrakt: Space is being increasingly militarized. Some nations have developed, tested, and deployed various satellites and some counterspace weapons. Space-based capabilities impact many day-to-day aspects of the Slovak way of life. These capabilities enable functions that affect our homes, transportation, electric power grids, banking systems, and our global communications. Satellites provide access to a broad range of information and enable many services in real time, from watching breaking news to monitoring our deployed armed forces day or night. Slovakia, as a country of over 5,4 million inhabitants located in the innovative Central part of Europe, sees its potential in the new space economy lying in finding and filling niches open to innovation, as well as building on the historical heritage of space technologies and competences initially developed in the second half of the 20th century. Slovakia should increase its efforts in sharing space data, products and services within NATO and EU to support its requirements and defense plans.
