Abstrakt: Social work, as a helping profession, is applied in areas where the help and intervention of social workers is needed. The various fields of social work include military social work, which is neither sufficiently researched nor practically developed in Slovakia. The concept is relatively unknown to the general public, although, according to the National Association of Social Workers, military social work was practised during the First and Second World Wars, where social workers worked with the American Red Cross.
The present study deals with a specific area of social work that is not sufficiently represented in theory or practice in Slovakia. This is military social work, which primarily aims to help war veterans and their families. For academic purposes, this study presents a theoretical definition of military social work in a broader context and analyses the work of the military social worker himself with veterans and their families.
